Project FELICE: Fostering Equity in Learning Through Inclusion, Connectivity, and Engagement

In conjunction with Felician University’s Weeks of Welcome, August 19th to August 23th 2024, Year 2 iPad Deployment/Distribution occurred. This year’s distribution was held outside of Ray’s Place in the Education Commons building on the Rutherford Campus by Felician’s Project FELICE team: Felipe Jaccomo, Technology and Integration Specialist, and Serina Sebbio, Campus and Community IT Coordinator. The first few days of the week (August 19th, 20th, and 21st) were made available for commuter students to stop by during the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. to pick up their iPads and compatible accessories. The rest of the week (August 22nd and 23rd), residential students were similarly given the opportunity to pick up their iPads and device accessories (8:30 am to 6 p.m.). During the course of the week, 300 iPads were distributed to eligible freshmen and sophomore! Additionally, each iPad recipient is required to attend one training workshop that is conducted by the Project FELICE team. Workshops are being conducted every Wednesday during the months of October, November, & Early December. There will also be one or two workshop sessions during the evening that will be provided at a later date. These workshops are to provide insight into a number of productivity applications that can help enhance one’s learning and assist students throughout their university journey. iPads were also distributed to Felician students within three cohorts: nursing undergraduate and graduate students, as well as counseling psychology graduate students who are interns learning telehealth best practices. Through the applications of Simple Practice and Sentinel City, students within the three cohorts are able to schedule Telehealth appointments and conduct sessions/calls. Additionally, iPads have been distributed to clients who are a part of the three collaborating organizations: Franciscan Community Development Center’s Community Based Psychotherapy Center, Care Plus and Jersey City Medical Center. Thank you Dr. Marcela Farfan for facilitating communication between both Felician University and partnered medical centers!
